Жан-Батист Анри Дюран-Бражер, французский художник-маринист, родился в городе Доль(Франция) в 1814 году. В 1840 году сопровождал флот, который привозил останки Наполеона с острова Св.Елены. Большую часть времени он проводил в путешествиях, вместе с эскадрой ездил в Буэнос-Айрес, исследовал Уругвай и Бразилию, сопровождал экспедиции в Танжер и Могадор, на Мадагаскар, был прикреплен к французской эскадре в Черном море в Крыму во время войны с Россией. На него была возложена задача по составлению планов русских крепостей и осмотру берегов с целью навигации.
