On February 12 the WCB received a letter from the adviser of Management of the UN Supreme commissioner on human rights (MUNSCHM) with the offer to register the organization in the UN registry.
After filling necessary papers and the forms, the WCB was successfully registered into the database of the public organizations, protecting the interests of disappearing and small peoples, with which the UN organization cooperates. The basic activities of the MUNSCHM concern protection of human rights; assistance in comprehension by men of their rights and support those who helps to carry out these rights. Proceeding from the Viennese convention of 1993 and the declaration of the session of the international council of 2005, the UN Management under human rights is going to promote protection of the rights of the national minorities and the disappearing nations.
The registration of the Adygeyan organization in the UN database received some comments of the WCB president Zamir Shukhov:
"The International pact about the civil and political rights come into force by March 23, 1976, protects the rights and freedom of absolutely all the peoples occupying our planet, irrespective of, whether those peoples great or small. In the document it is spoken that all the peoples have the right to self-determination. By virtue of this right they freely establish their political status and freely provide their economic, social and cultural development.
Each state undertakes to respect and to provide with all persons within the limits of its territory and under its jurisdiction the rights recognized in the present Pact, without any distinctions, as in relation to their races, colours of skin, gender, language, religion, political and other beliefs, national or social origin, property status, birth or other circumstances. As it is known, the representatives of the Circassian nation live in more than 54 states of the world and they are minority of the population in each of those countries, including their historical native land - Russia.
Registration of our organization in the UN registry gives us wider opportunities for activities in protection of the interests of the small Circassian ethnos worldwide, protection of its ethnic status, culture, language and self-determination. During many years we observed suppression of the national identity in the different countries of the Circassians’ compact residing, which, unfortunately, negatively influenced the preservation of all the attributes of our people; a lot of valuable and irreplaceable materials was lost, the bases of the national education and the native language were undermined; approximately, 2/3 of the Circassian population on the planet do not speak their language or can not write and read in it. Today we recollect - piece by piece - the history and knowledge of our ancestors, information about their life and achievements.
During the last 2 years, the representatives of the WCB work worldwide in searches of such information, publicizing it to the world community for studying.
The fact that the UN Organization has contacted the Worldwide Circassian Brotherhood is the indicator of our successful development and progress in the activities we do.
Sometimes we face unjustified criticism to the address of ours and various gossips about our radicalism and chauvinism, but such provocations will always be at a level of hearings, as they have no any bases. To represent interests of our people is the matter of our life and honour".
