Kabardino-Balkarian president: war in Southern Ossetia could make the whole Caucasus “hot spot”

“The people of Kabardino-Balkarian, the republican leadership are seriously worried in relation to the situation, developed in Southern Ossetia”, - president of Kabardino-Balkaria Arsen Kanokov stated, making comments on the events in Southern Ossetia.

“The artillery and mortar fire, tanks firing from the side of Georgia against Tskhinval and other towns, information about human victims… All of that sounds like the reports of the time of the Great Patriotic war of 1941-1945. But it happens now, 60 years later, when the human kind seemed to make bitter conclusions from that. And what underlines the cynics of the aggressor’s actions is that its attack was started on the day of the Olympiad’s beginning when in all the times was the signal for peace”, - the KBR presidential press-service quoted the words of the republican president.

The leader of the republic underlined that bloodshed never solved dispute questions and only aggravated the conflicts, pushing the conflicting parties far away down to their regress.

“The only true and civilized way to normalization of the situation is to sit down to the table for peace negotiations. Any war means death, ruins and hunger. Such war could blow the whole Caucasus which had just started actively developing and arranging, attracting investments. And if to stop that war the region could become a “hot spot” again”, - Kanokov underlined.

He called the Georgian leadership up to stop immediately the war actions against the Ossetian people.

“It has been too late yet to prevent the great bloodshed and new human victims. In its turn Kabardino-Balkaria as well as I think, all the republics of Northern Caucasus, is ready to help Southern Ossetia all possible support and to offer it helping hand”, - KBR president stated.

As he assured, the resort and rest institutions and hospitals of our republic are ready to receive refugees from the conflict zone. He added that yesterday Kabardino-Balkaria had received on its territory over 100 inhabitants of Southern Ossetia.

“We express our sincere human sympathy towards the brotherly people, which had become a victim of the perfidious war attack and our deep condolences in relation to the killed inhabitants of Southern Ossetia”, - Kanokov said.
