The State Duma of Russian Federation at the emergency plenary session on August, 25th supported the reference to the president of Russia Dmitry Medvedev about recognition of independence of the republics of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
The decision was unanimously adopted by the deputies.
In the document, the State Duma approved, the question "about the prompt carrying out of the negotiations with the leaderships of the Republic of South Ossetia and Republic of Abkhazia with the view of creation of the legal basis for interstate relations providing regulation of all the aspects of cooperation and mutual aids, including security issues" was also stated.
Besides the deputies of the State Duma called up the parliaments of the states-members of the United Nations and the international parliamentary organizations to support the recognition of independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia as the independent, sovereign and self-governing states, motivating that necessity with the armed attack of Georgia against South Ossetia. "The present escalation of the conflict is not the result of some dissenting efforts of certain mythical separatists as at times they try to present the legitimate governments of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. It is a tragical result of the centuries-old opposition of the peoples living in the region which neither the former, nor the present heads of Georgia could overcome", - it was spoken in the text of the reference.
The authors of the document reminded that "in 1992, after the USSR’s disintegration, the people of South Ossetia and Abkhazia organized the national referenda at which the overwhelming majority of the citizens’ voices demonstrated the unwillingness to live in the one Georgian state».» Then the Georgian nationalists tried with the military force or to force these people to capitulation, or, having destroyed them, to take away the released lands", - the members of the parliament ascertained. The State Duma reminded that on August, 20,21th and 22 of this year "the peoples of Abkhazia and South Ossetia through their lawfully elected authorities addressed to the president of Russian Federation, the Council of Federation and the State Duma with the request for recognition of their republics as the independent states. The State Duma considers such will lawful, proved and justified.
As earlier IА REGNUM informed, the Council of Federation of Russian Federation several hours earlier had unanimously adopted the similar reference to the president of Russia.
