“Sochi- 2014” organizing committee “pro” World Circassian games project

The organizing committee on carrying out of the Sochi Olympiad suggested including the project of the World Circassian games as a component in one of the programs “Sochi 2014”. Such initiative had been developed in reply the reference to Dmitry Chernyshenko, the president of the Organizing committee "Sochi-2014", from the authors of the project “Circassiad-2012”.

The offer of inclusion Circassiada-2012 in the program of preparation of the Sochi Olympiad became the first reaction to the Circassian project from the structures close to the federal authorities. In the letter of the Organizing committee a hope that the Circassian project “can take a worthy place in the number of the events of the Cultural Olympiad “Sochi 2014” was expressed.

The authors of Circassiad’s idea, Sufian Jemuhov, chairman of the historical commission of the Coordination council of Adygeyan public organizations of KBR, and Alexey Bekshokov, chairman of the Union of Abkhazian volunteers of KBR, consider the offer of Organizing committee “Sochi 2014” as a positive step to the project’s implementation.

Carrying out of Circassiad - the world Circassian Olympic games - is planned for 2012 in Nalchik by 12 kinds of sports within 12 days – according to the quantity of the stars on the Circassian flag. The authors organize a series of presentations, half from which had already taken place in six Russian cities, including Sochi, Moscow and S.-Petersburg, six ones would take place abroad. 12 socially-practical conferences and other actions within the limits of preparation of Circassiad-2012 are also planned.

The authors of the project “Circassiad-2012” are sure that carrying out of the world Circassian games can bring the positive contribution to solving of the problem of keeping the interethnic peace and public consent in Northern Caucasian region during preparation and carrying out of the Games-2014. From its part, the Organizing committee “Sochi-2014” declared readiness “to consider the problem of inclusion of the project into the program of the Cultural Olympiad “Sochi-2014”.

The organizing committee “Sochi-2014” declared about creation of the complex project “Caucasian games”, including, the Festival of national kinds of sports and the national creativity “Caucasian Games”, the International folklore festival of peoples of Caucasus and the Black Sea Coast, as well as a number of other projects of such conceptual orientation.

Alexey Bekshokov named the idea of "Caucasian Games” interesting. “Right at the beginning of creation of the project of Circassian games we had discussed that the Caucasian Olympic Games could be organized”, - he declared.

Speaking about the status of Circassian games, Sufian Jemuhov explained: “Official name of our project is the term “Circassiad” while the word-combinations “Circassian Olympic games" and "Circassian Olympiad” means interpretation of this term just like in the international practice interpretation Makkabiad means the Jewish Olympic games (since 1932). The other interpretation of the term “Circassiad” is word-combinations “Pan-Circassian games” by analogy with Pan-Armenian games (since 1999), as well as “World Circassian games”, and so on can serve.
