On May 21st of the present year of 2010 6 million Adygeyan (Circassian) people - both on the native land and in Diaspora - will commemorate the 146th anniversary of the genocide, it is stated in the letter sent by e-mail to NatPress by the Circassian Cultural Institute (USA).
“Circassians will organize near the Russian embassies, at the United Nations building meetings devoted to this day, as well as to protest against carrying out Olympiad in Sochi, and we invite to take part in these actions”, it is marked in the message.
In the letter they inform that at the meetings it is planned to declare three problems:
1. Recognition of the genocide of Circassians;
2. Cancelling of the Olympiad in Sochi;
3. Freedom of Circassia.
Further in the text they describe how the imperial armies committed the genocide, that Sochi was the capital of Circassia destroyed in 1864, that more than 90 % of the country’s population were killed or migrated out of the borders of the native land.
In the letter it is also wrote that the genocide is not settled with the events of 1864, it proceeds till now, and today the rights and freedoms of Adygs in Russia are trampled. “Just recently in KCR Adygeyan leaders were murdered, in Caucasus wars do not stop”, authors of the letter emphasize.
In the message the characterize the events taken place in the territories of Circassia, Georgia where a conference, devoted to recognition of the genocide of Circassians had passed.
In summary the letter’s authors specified places where the Day of memory of the genocide will be commemorated. They are New York, the United Nations’ building (USA), Istanbul (Turkey), Berlin, Munich (Germany), Israel, Jordan, Syria, Holland, England, and other countries.
