The Georgian parliament at an extraordinary meeting unanimously adopted a resolution on 01 July "The perpetuation of the memory of genocide victims of the Circassian people committed by the Russian empire."
These measures involve the construction of a memorial in Anaklia dedicated to the genocide of Circassians.
As stated in an interview with reporters, the chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Diaspora Affairs and the Caucasus Nugzar Tsiklauri held consultations on the subject with the Government after the parliamentary approval decision. According to him, the memorial to be declared an international contest, which will be attended by Georgian, Circassian and other Caucasian writers.
In his opinion, Georgia's recognition of the genocide of Circassians committed by the Russian Empire is the affirmation of a new geopolitical reality in Georgia.
