
As they reported the decision to establish that memorial was adopted by the Government of Georgia, and the issue of the competition’s organization was considered by the Georgian Parliament. Plans to hold such competition was announced on 2 August, and they started accepting applications in September of this year.
In the international competition, announced by the apparatus of State Minister for Diaspora Affairs, 29 people participated - professional sculptors, architects, painters, and non-professional specialists. From among them there were 17 citizens of Georgia, three representatives of Jordan, another three - from Turkey. The other participants were from Adygeya, Germany, Kabardino-Balkaria and the U.S.
According to the requirements of the competition, a project of the memorial should have the nature of a chamber, must be created in a view of the buildings on the surrounding area, in the application they also had to specify what material the monument should be made of. At the same time the organizers did not limit the contestants to choose such material.
The winner Husen Kochesokov had already received his prize - 10 thousand dollars, as the spokesperson of the Georgian State Minister for Diaspora Affairs Shorena Kervalidze said.
The second place appeared to be after representative of Jordan Ali Mahara, he received three thousand dollars; the third one belonged to Georgian sculptor Guram Nikoladze, who received the prize of one thousand dollars.
